Creating a Professional Team

In an effort to beat the rainy weather blues, our teams from Mayfair Manor, Hermitage Care and Rehabilitation Center, and Signature HealthCARE of Hillcrest decided to take to the bowling alley to create our own sunshine.

We have some pretty talented bowlers! Our winner from Mayfair Manor had never bowled a game in her life, but she now has a new hobby! Our winner from Hermitage bowled two strikes in her last frame, and our winner from Hillcrest was the strike and spare king the whole game! I think we may be well on our way to the professional leagues.

Everyone had a wonderful time munching on pizza, bowling, and being around each other. Plus, a little trash talking always adds excitement to the crowd.

Thanks to all who participated in these adventures. Look for us on the next PBA tour. We’ll be coming to your city soon!

Take Me Out To The Ball Game

Staff and residents from Signature HealthCARE of Bowling Green, Signature HealthCARE at Hillcrest, and Hermitage Care and Rehabilitation Center enjoyed a day at Bowling Green Ballpark. They watched a thrilling game of baseball between the Bowling Green Hot Rods and the South Bend Cubs.

Even though the home team was unable to pull a win, the game was still exciting and the atmosphere was entertaining.

Our folks took pictures with the Hot Rods mascot, were featured on the jumbotron, and even caught a foul ball. We were lucky enough to be driving up when a foul ball was hit outside of the stadium. Thankfully nobody was hurt in retrieving the foul ball.

What a beautiful day at the park! We couldn’t have asked for better weather or a better day to be with friends and family!

Signature Staycations Continued

Our coverage of the Signature Stay-cations continues with a trip to the Corvette Museum with Signature Healthcare of Bowling Green, Signature Healthcare of Clarksville, Signature Healthcare of Hillcrest, and Hermitage Care and Rehab. Upon arrival to the museum, the communities were told “the story of the sinkhole,” given a brief orientation, and history.

In 1994, the Corvette Museum opened and it’s the only facility in America dedicated to a single model of car. The museum is also home to the One Millionth Corvette that was donated by Chevrolet. The Corvette Assembly Plant is located across the street from the museum, and our residents saw a brand new Corvette leave the floor to go to its new home.

They clapped and cheered as the car drove off the showroom floor. The residents learned about 70 different models of the ‘Vette, facts about the production, and checked out the videos and memorabilia. There was a wealth of knowledge shared, and the residents and staff soaked it all in. One of our residents even got the chance to sit in the driver’s seat of one of the cars!

The crew had a great time and they are looking forward to go back in September when the “Sinkhole” display is open for touring. Maybe they’ll get a chance to take one of those ‘Vettes for a whirl around the block next time!

Doesn’t hurt to dream, right?

Spirituality LearnFEST draws crowd for virtual learning conference

SpiritLearnFest_Banner_625w

More than 1,000 Signature staff members registered for the recent Spirituality LearnFEST, a virtual learning conference that encouraged participants to consider the impact of spirituality, if fully activated, in a long-term care environment.

And that number doesn’t even include the many who joined in groups, in offices, breakrooms and wherever there were TVs or computers at Signature centers across 10 states to view the live broadcast. The event featured sessions that tied spirituality to numerous aspects of long-term care and health care, from clinical care to legislative involvement and the impact of spirituality in the workplace.

Signature’s urban centers celebrate Chinese New Year with multi-facility competition

Signature’s Urban Segment has been highlighting different cultures since September 2014 in the Quality of Life department. Every month a country is celebrated with weekly activities representing that specific country. Staff and residents learn about the culture which includes, crafts, food, language, famous landmarks, and learning about the customs and traditions.

China was highlighted during the month of February. Urban Indiana, Urban North, and Urban South celebrated the Chinese New Year on February 19, 2015. Each community in Urban created their own version of the Chinese dragon for their celebration. The top two dragons in each sub-segment were the winners!  The residents are still talking about the celebrations held at their communities.
